It's Easter. Its that time of the year when we realize we are truly in the season of Spring. It doesn't look much now, but during this time flowers bring life to dullness of the city, pastel colors fill store fronts and hard boiled eggs. What Easter also brings is an answer to a question that most don't seem to understand. What do bunnies and eggs have to do with Easter?! Easter is about new life and rebirth. Something that was once gone is now reintroduced in a new light. Symbols like rabbits, eggs, and lilies all represent the existence of life and purity. As a kid, this holiday represented a lot of confusion. It wasn't until Junior High School where I got really into mythology, that I came to the realization that rabbits do not lay eggs. Don't judge. I hear you laughing. Yeah, get it all out. You all thought the same thing when you were younger, don't lie. I'm an Easter baby. I loved Easter when I was younger, 'cause it seemed to always fall on or few days before/after my birthday. I remember during those times, after church my Godmother would have the traditional Easter candies for me and my cousins and other kids that lived on the block. Because it was my birthday, I would get the best of treats. One year, I received a huge Easter basket to my mother's disgust. It was a pink basket that had plastic pastel eggs where the surprise inside were little chocolate eggs and toys. There were small boxes of jelly beans and other soft candies and in the center was a GIANT chocolate bunny. That sucker was hollow and it was rich. It took me 3 days to eat that chocolate. Now, Easter is an afterthought. I don't get as excited about the holiday as I used to. I mean, that's a lot of people right? Holidays that you were once excited about doesn't have the same effect now that your an adult. What I will say, is when Easter comes around, there is only one thing that does bring me joy. HAAAAAAAAM. Ham. My mom only makes this 3 times a year and I savor every mouthwatering slice. HAPPY EASTER!!!

I always thought it odd that the hypothetical eggs that come out of the bunny are % 100 chicks. Shouldn't it be some sort of bunny-chick hybrid? Or perhaps the bunny is simply a surrogate? Odd thoughts indeed - but as long as there's chocolate I'm willing to look past the disturbing implications of the easter bunny narrative. Chocolate and coconut cake.
