Are you someone that enjoys the company of just yourself? You make plans with friends, but quickly become excited when they fall through? You become overwhelmed when the room is exceeded past two people? You my friend are an introvert and that's okay.
I prefer my own company. I would rather stay home and binge-watch Supernatural or get sucked into the YouTube rabbit hole than to actually make an effort of going out. Now, that is not to say that I don't like to go out. I enjoy going to the movies, hanging out, going to the bar, etc. But its so much work. I mean interacting with people takes a lot out of you.  Which is why introverts often tend to have "Me Days". It gives us a chance to recharge.

The perception that introverts are shy, quiet or anti-social are not entirely true. There could very well be introverts that are those things, but 9/10 are not. Yeah, we're quiet. We're observers. That's what we're actually doing. We are watching the various scenes in front of us unfold, learning and taking the information in. That's how we, introverts process things. I've been known to dive into this deep daze, where everything and everyone around me is moving at a snail's pace and blurry, but the only thing that is clear is the conversation that I am having in my head in order to present a thought with people.

Though introverts crave solitude, we are very much open to socializing. Now, that being said, we don't necessarily socialize to meet new people. It's not the case for most, but generally, our intention of going out is to be with the small group of close friends. Yes, we acknowledge that there will be other people, but our attention is on the people we came in with. That being said, after a few minutes of being around a  group or crowd we quickly want to go home in our pajamas. We basically have the Julius Cesar mentality, "We came. We saw. We wanna go home."
Side note:  If by the end of the night I end up with a new friend, yay me, I just gained an extra point on the friend meter. Bonus.

Introverts like the idea of being alone, but not really being alone.  As I said before, I like my own company, but sometimes I don't want to be in my own head for too long. So I know I can walk into a friends place, sit on their floor and watch mindless TV or play video games until my fulfillment of human interaction has been completed. In no way are they offended by what little interaction we just shared.  I'm like a cat when I want to be around you, I'll let you know otherwise I'm good.

If you know someone who is an introvert or encountered an introvert, I hope this help clarified any misconception you may have had about us. We're not rude, we're not loners, we're not shy; we are simply easily overstimulated, self-aware, deep thinkers who need special care when it comes to our sanity.

I agree with your point that introverts are not shy or quiet. We selectively reveal parts of ourselves to people we seem worthy.
